How to Fix Pro-Line Body Mount Interference on a Traxxas Nitro Slash (Step-by-Step Guide)
Introduction
So, you got the EZ start removed, and now it is time to get the ProLine Body mount kit set so you can put different bodies on the slash. When I break the latest body, then I will have to get the Proline Beetle body. A VW Beetle with a Nitro Engine? That would be the bomb, and now I am getting set up so that I can just paint the body to slap it on the chassis.
The way that the proline kit is right now, it interferes with the rear suspension so that the shocks cannot compress all the way. This is a major bummer. I love this system, and so I want to make sure that everything fits correctly (original post here).
So, let’s dig into this
First, notice that the body mounts are interfering with the suspension. When the suspension compresses, the top control arms will hit the body mounts.
Second, admire the Nitro motor. It is beautiful, and now skip to step three.
Third stop staring at the motor and grab the tool bits to remove the mounts. This will be a screwdriver, and you need to remove two screws on the back of the truck
Fourth, remove the screws and flip the body posts around. This is where the iFixit kit we mentioned in previous posts is helpful, with the bendy tool to loosen the screw.
Fifth, put the body back on the post. You will notice that the body does not line up. I attached the body to the front posts. Now you can simply apply some pressure to the back of the body, hold the Proline mounts where you want them, score the body, and use the body reamer to make the needed holes.
(This is where I simply put pressure on top of the body and held the body post. Once the paint was marked I could use a body reamer to make the hole.)
Sixth, attach the body, and it should look right. You can also lower the body using the body mount to lower it.
(All you need is traction bars and this thing is the perfect 70’s high schooler hot rod. Although, I never really liked the look of the jacked up rear end.)
Seventh, take it outside and let’er rip!
(Here is the final stance. The truck looks like a true short course truck now.)
Now the truck has a more realistic mount. The best way to do this in the future is to rest the body on the mounts and use a marker to mark where you want the holes in the body.
Conclusion
This slash has done a lot to make me love Nitro. I never really got why guys were into Nitro because it seemed expensive, not so easy to work with it, and you really have to plan ahead. In my mind, these things were all negatives against Nitro. However, now, they are all positives. If you are on the fence about a nitro RC vehicle, pick one up off eBay or even buy a brand new Slash. They are a hoot!
I am not planning to get rid of my electric trucks. They are nice to plug in a battery and let them rip. That is a good thing. However, once in a while, it is nice to take out a nitro truck and hear the motor run.
Yes, you have to be more deliberate in your planning, but it is a good thing to be more deliberate in life.
